One of three victims of a horror shooting at a Rome cafe has been named a friend of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Far-right leader Ms. Meloni posted a picture of herself alongside Nicoletta Golisano on Instagram on Sunday evening and wrote: "For me she will always be beautiful and happy like this. It's not right to die like this."

On Sunday, the man pulled out a gun and opened fire on a meeting of residents of a building in a cafe in northern Rome, killing three people and seriously injuring four others.

The unnamed 57-year-old suspect had been involved in a series of disputes with the residents' association, a witness told Italian newspaper Rai News.

"He entered the room, closed the door and shouted 'I'm going to kill you all,' then started shooting," Italian news agency Ansa said, citing a witness.
