Jackie Chan knew he had to be more than an action star to continue in the film industry

The 'Rush Hour' actor told GQ how several action stars have come and gone in the East Asian film industry. Being memorable and relevant year after year was a tough job, and Chan believes that to do that, every performer has to change up and get into different kinds of movies. Like Sylvester Stallone, whom Chan seems to admire.

"If I'm to [to] continue in the film industry... I have to change. Otherwise, you're gone. See, Japan. Korea. America. China. Hong Kong. How many action stars are all gone? Only a few can stay. Stallone is different. He's a legend. Other action stars are already gone."

Chan also detailed how stars like Clint Eastwood, Al Pacino and Robert De Niro had taken on multiple roles in the film industry – they had all gone from acting to directing to producing of movies. This is something Chan is interested in too.

"That's why I'm looking for a different script, a different character, a different Jackie Chan. I want audiences to watch Jackie Chan as an actor. Not the action star. Actor who can fight. Look at Clint Eastwood. If he continues to 'Make my day'? Gone. So he moves on to directing. He changes other things. Look at Al Pacino. Robert De Niro. I want to be a Asian Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino."
