Rees-Mogg took to the media to say Truss' comment made 'sense' and that he reflected the "low productivity of the UK economy".

Brexit opportunities minister has been asked to move into an inet taxi as secretary to the trade if Truss wins the leadership race against Rishi Sunak.

Truss's comments, leaked in an audio recording from her time as Treasury Minister in 2017-2019, the leadership contestant was trying to explain the decline in productivity seen outside of London.

She said it was down to "a mindset and attitude problem".

Truss continued: "There is a fundamental problem with British working culture. Basically, if we want to be a richer country and a more prosperous country, that has to change. But I don't think people are that keen on changing that."

She added that there is "a slight problem in Britain with wanting the easy answers".

She continued, "But actually, what needs to happen is more…more transplant. This is not a popular message."

Defending Truss as a key ally of the Tory leadership candidate, Rees-Mogg said the comments "drew fictional political criticism, but they reflect an unfortunate reality in much of the British state."
