James Anderson: England skipper Ben Stokes is the best captain I've played under

England's James Anderson (R) celebrates with Joe Root, Ollie Robinson and Ben Stokes after dismissing South Africa's Keegan Petersen during day four of the third LV= Insurance Test Match between England and South Africa at the Kia Oval on September 11, 2022 in London, England.

Anderson has been managed by Ashes winners Michael Vaughan, Sir Andrew Strauss and Sir Alastair Cook since winning his first Test cap in 2003.

Stokes replaced Joe Root as England Test skipper last summer and won 10 of his first 12 games in charge.

"I think he's been perfect so far," Anderson said.

< p class="" data-reactid=".bv7wg9x138.0.0.0.1.$paragraph -5">"I really have no complaints. I think everyone knew he was a leader, the way he trains, whether it's in the gym or whether it's catching, hitting or bowling - the way he goes about his business, he's the ultimate professional.

"The way he plays, he drops everything. So he's a born leader."

When asked if Stokes was the best captain with he had played, Anderson paused for a moment before replying, "Yeah. It's hard to say in a short time, but he had an amazing start.

"I think he's completely different from any captain I've played with before and really enjoyed it.

" For me it's the finer details, not just on the pitch where his tactical acumen was perfect, but also his intelligence emotional off the pitch and the way he speaks to everyone in the group.

"S' he needs to put his arm around someone or kick someone out, he just has a really good way And the way he addresses the group is also great. So I was really impressed."

Playing 'three or four tests out of five' is realistic

After excelling in a bold and expansive style of play under Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, England face Australia this summer in bid for their first Ashes Series win since 2015.< /p>

However, with five Ashes tests in just over six weeks, the 40-year-old expects that there is some rotation among the bowlers during the series.

"I think playing all five is a bit optimistic," he said. "I think three, not just for me - if you said to one of the bowlers three out of five, I think that's probably more realistic, makes more sense. If it's four, then great.

"The thing is, you have to take it game by game. If we do 250 pitches in the field in five days, you're probably going to rest, it might rain, we could get them out for less.

"You must play by ear. But yeah, realistically three or four out of five would be more realistic than five."

Regardless of how much matches he played...
