James Gunn Provides DC Universe Update Amid Conflicting Reports

Following various reports about what the future of DC Studios might look like, new co-CEO James Gunn took to Twitter to share some of his plans for the future.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Gunn noted that he was well aware he was entering a "turbulent environment" when he and Peter Safran took over DC Studios. Gunn also said there will be an "inevitable period of transition" as the duo come together to form what will be the next ten years of stories that Warner Bros. Discovery helps to create. Ultimately, Gunn said he knew they wouldn't make "everyone happy," but hopes fans will understand that the duo work in service of the story and in service of DC's characters that they know and love.

You can check out the tweets below:

“Peter and I chose to lead DC Studios knowing that we were entering a turbulent environment, both in the stories being told and in the audiences themselves and that there would be an inevitable period of transition then. that we were moving towards a cohesive story across film, TV, animation and games," Gunn said in his tweets. "But, ultimately, the downsides of this transitional period were overshadowed by the creative possibilities and the opportunity to build on what has worked in DC so far and help rectify what hasn't."

Gunn's comments come in response to a lengthy Hollywood Reporter article on Wednesday, which noted quite a few things, including that the planned Wonder Woman 3 wouldn't happen again, Henry Cavill could be back as Superman, The rumored Man of Steel and Black Adam sequels may no longer be happening, and Jason Momoa may move on from Aquaman instead and play DC anti-hero Lobo instead.

Addressing the report, Gunn did not confirm what was or was not true, but said some of what it contained was true, some was not, and some "half-true," while some just haven't been decided by the creative duo yet. At the end of his tweet thread, Gunn said he couldn't say much more about the future of the DCU as they still have a lot to think about in figuring out how to move forward.
