James McAvoy is the father of a lucky child

Fans may know James McAvoy for his iconic roles in films and TV shows such as the X-Men franchise, 'It Chapter Two' and 'The Sandman', but for his son, Brendan McAvoy, he is simply known as dad.

While James is currently married to fellow actress Lisa Liberati, he shares a son with ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff. James and Duff were married for 10 years, from 2006 to 2016. During that time, the couple welcomed Brendan in June 2010. Although their relationship didn't quite work out, McAvoy and Duff respectfully requested confidentiality at the midway through their separation in order to protect Brendan, noting that they would continue to be friends.

“It is with immense sadness that we have made the decision to divorce,” James and Duff told Entertainment Tonight in a statement in May 2016. “We are entering this new phase with friendship, love and continued respect for each other and the shared goal of caring for our son. We ask that you respect our privacy and, most importantly, our child's during this time."
