Memorial plan for Jeffrey Dahmer victims worries Milwaukee officials

Discussions are ongoing about how best to honor the victims of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer...but Milwaukee officials are concerned that a physical memorial site will attract the wrong people.

In the wake of the new Netflix series 'Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story' - which has sparked much controversy - there is a wave of public support for erecting a tribute to Dahmer's victims in Milwaukee. While Mayor Cavalier Johnson agrees with the concept, we learned he was concerned about the potential for a memorial to become a mecca for Dahmer fans. Scary, but yes, they exist.

Mayor Johnson's communications director, Jeff Fleming, told TMZ...that the mayor wants to do something to honor the families of the victims, but Milwaukee wants to avoid creating a "macabre destination for fans in difficulty" looking for any reason to celebrate Dahmer.

The problem, we are told, is to further traumatize the families of the victims.

It's a familiar problem in Milwaukee, where Dahmer was born and raised and where many of his murders were carried out...mostly in a building that is now a vacant lot.

We are told that there has been a conscious effort in Milwaukee over the years to eliminate any connection to Dahmer: all of his possessions have been burned, and even the factory where he worked has been demolished.
