Growing discontent among young doctors fuels fears they will strike.

Survey shows two-thirds have researched leaving the NHS in the past year. The BMA, which is to elect junior doctors, said its findings should be a "real wake-up call" for Tories.

Doctors will vote in the second week of the New Year on whether to follow nurses and paramedics in industrial action.

Despite being burdened by the pandemic and soaring inflation, overworked young doctors have received a meager 2% pay raise in 2022.

Showing the scale of discontent in the health service, the survey of almost 4,000 young doctors in England over the past two months by the BMA found that 79% 'often think about leaving the NHS' .

It showed that a large majority - 65% - of those surveyed said they had been 'actively looking to leave the NHS' in 2022.

Physicians are currently under immense pressure with a record backlog of more than 7 million patients awaiting care and in the past week several hospitals have declared critical incidents amid unprecedented demand.
