Kali Reis from “True Detective” has made her way to HBO. And after?
Two days after the finale of HBO's "True Detective: Night Country","Kali Reis was rolling bandages for the hands, alone, in a training center on a farm in northern New Jersey.
Before starring in the anthology series, she played Evangeline Navarro, a police officer of steel from Alaska; before walking red carpets in London, Paris and Los Angeles; before Christmas dinner at the home of co-star Jodie Foster, Ms. Reis was a champion boxer. Her fight on most recent, however, took place online.
The night before, "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto had reposted a series of fan complaints regarding the finale on Instagram, apparently in an attempt to distance himself from the fourth season of the series which has just ended – the first that he had not written.
Ms. Reis, 37, is no stranger to trash talk, online haters and naysayers. “Boxing is a beautiful profession, but it’s brutal,” she said, adding: “Everyone has an opinion.” The same goes for acting, she's discovered, especially since the series finale aired. In her experience, there's always a "devoted troll," she laughed.
Mrs. Reis (pronounced Reece) quickly responded in his own late-night post, calling Mr. Pizzolatto's comments a "fucking shame." According to HBO, its season of “True Detective” attracted 12.7 million viewers across various platforms, more than any of the show’s previous three seasons. A few days after the finale, the network renewed the series for another season, with the expected return of the new showrunner. (Through a representative, Mr. Pizzolatto declined to comment for this article.)
