Prince William and Prince Harry have been going out a lot lately. With the release of Netflix's younger brother documentary and memoir coming soon, don't expect attention-grabbing efforts to diminish anytime soon.

Before being honored on Tuesday for "their unwavering commitment to social change" at the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Awards in New York, both smiled up at the bright white lights and shutter clicks of the photographer's pit.

But that wasn't the only high-profile engagement on Dec. 6. A few hours earlier, three thousand kilometers from London, in the golden corridors of Buckingham Palace, the Prince of Wales received guests at a reception organized for the diplomatic corps, joined by the king and the queen consort. Like Ms Markle, the Princess of Wales smiled for the cameras, sparkling in a red dress by Jenny Packham. On her head, the future queen wore a dazzling diamond tiara.

The night was the latest in a series of public events undertaken by the two royal couples which seemed to coincide directly with each other - sometimes on the same continent. The weeks when the two sides fought for attention, whether intentionally or not, were inevitably framed by the media as a reflection of the lingering rivalry between two boy princes who grew into very different and distant men.

It started when William and Catherine, on their first official tour as Prince and Princess of Wales since the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, embarked on a three-day US tour on November 30. They went to a basketball game, visited a start-up incubator and attended a celebration for the prince's environmental project, the Earthshot Prize. That journey ended - and for some, overshadowed - by the surprise release of two explosive trailers for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's new Netflix series, 'Harry and Meghan', for which the couple's reps had at one point was looking for around $100 million. Meghan also appeared and spoke at a women's event in Indiana on November 30, the day before the Prince and Princess of Wales arrived in Boston. Soon, tweets and headlines were pouring in and assessing what some saw as the latest skirmish in the Windsors' war.
