Keir Starmer has put Labor on the ballot because he thinks the Conservative government “could fall at any time”.

The party leader told staff 'we have to be ready', ordering them to speed up preparations yesterday.

After Liz Truss' disastrous first month in office, he said, "Now is not the time to be complacent or cautious.

"We must seize the opportunity to show the British people that we can take the country forward."

Mr. Starmer added: "We are turning the page on the final act of opposition: getting Labor into government. It's going to get harder the closer we get.

"The government's collapse on the biggest issue - the economy - means it could fall at any moment.

“We have to recognize that it is so unstable. We have to be ready. We have to get on an election footing immediately.”

Mr Starmer's chief of staff, Sam White, who had been blamed by some for handling the picket line, will step down.

The party will also establish a new headquarters in London which will serve as the basis for the general election.
