Keir Starmer said the country deserved a break after a chaotic year in British politics overseen by three prime ministers.

The Labor leader goes into Christmas with a big lead in the polls over the Tories after they fired Boris Johnson, then Liz Truss and ended up with Rishi Sunak.

"Christmas has always been a time of rest and reflection as well as celebration. After the year we've had, we all deserve it," he said.

In his Christmas message, Mr. Starmer proclaimed that the people of Ukraine were an “inspiration to us all” and paid tribute to their bravery in the face of the appalling attacks by Vladimir Putin.

Mr. Starmer described the holiday season as "a time to reflect on all that has come before, a time to be grateful for all that we have, and a time to look forward to what is to come." p>
