Killer monkey throws newborn off roof to death in front of horrified parents

A violent monkey has devastated a family in an Indian village after grabbing their three-month-old son and throwing him off a rooftop while they watched helplessly

A newborn baby died after being violently thrown from a roof by a monkey as his parents looked on in horror.

Nirdesh Upadhyay, 25, was on the roof terrace of his house in the village of Dunka in Uttar Pradesh, India, with his wife and four-month-old son when they were attacked by a troop of primates.

Left surrounded by the animals, he and his family attempted a quick escape before a fatal mistake ended in tragic loss.

Nidresh accidentally tripped and dropped the boy, with a rushing monkey instantly grabbing the tot by the hand and throwing him three stories off the roof before either parent could react.

The couple then rushed down the stairs and ran outside to help the baby, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

A case has since been opened regarding his death at Shahi Police Station, while the chief conservation officer for the town of Bareilly told PTI News that a wildlife team had been dispatched to investigate the monkeys.

Attacks on humans from the large roaming populations of rhesus monkeys in the Indian province of Uttar Pradesh have been reported in the past, with several involving children.
