Kim Jong-un has passed a law authorizing preemptive nuclear strikes in a move that could escalate tensions in the region.

The North Korean leader said it made his country's nuclear status "irreversible" and claimed he would end any discussion of denuclearization.

In announcing the new law before the Supreme People's Assembly, the dictator said: "The greatest importance of legislating nuclear weapons policy is to draw an irremediable line so that there can be no negotiation over our nuclear weapons."

The Supreme Leader added that he would never lay down his arms even if his country faces 100 years of sanctions.

The new law allows the government to carry out an automatic counterattack against an adversary if he attacks the country or stages an attempt on the life of its leader, the state-controlled news agency reported. KCNA status.

KCNA said: "In the event that the State's nuclear force command and control system is endangered due to an attack by hostile forces, a nuclear strike should be launched automatically and immediately. to destroy hostile forces."

The country already had a law that said it could use nuclear weapons to repel an invasion or attack from a hostile nuclear state and carry out retaliatory strikes.

But the new law goes much further and authorizes preemptive strikes if they detect the possibility of an imminent attack by weapons of mass destruction.
