King Charles makes William and Kate Prince and Princess of Wales

King Charles III addressed the nation for the first time as the new sovereign and made William and Kate the Prince and Princess of Wales

In his address, the King said: "Queen Elizabeth has been a life well lived; a promise with destiny kept and she is deeply mourned by her passing. This promise of lifelong service I renew to you at all today."

Her Majesty discussed the new roles and titles now assigned to family members, confirming that Camilla will serve as her Queen Consort.

Of William and Kate, he said: "As heir William now assumes the Scottish titles which have meant so much to me.

"He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and assumes the responsibilities of the Duchy of Cornwall which I have held for over five decades.

"Today I am proud to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, the country whose title I have been privileged to bear for so much of my life and duty.

"With Catherine at her side, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginalized to the center of the field where vital help can be given.

Charles also referenced Harry and Meghan in his speech, adding: 'I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas'

Kate and William are said to be determined to "deepen" their relationship with the people of Wales.
