A koala wandered into a petrol station in South Australia before scratching a worker's leg.

The 5.7kg female koala came through the doors of Ampol petrol station in the Adelaide Hills over the weekend.

CCTV footage shows the wandering marsupial past shelves filled with soft drinks and lollipops, before making his way behind the counter.

The koala stunned the gas station attendant as she scratched his leg.

"I don't know how the bring it down," the worker said.

The koala decided to jump back from the worker's leg and then spent almost 40 minutes walking the shelves until Koala Rescue Inc arrives and releases her into a forest about 50 0 meters.

Volunteer wildlife rescuer Jemma Manfre said that after being released the koala sprinted up a tree and did not looked back until she was on top.
