Kroos wants full apology from UEFA for Champions League final chaos

Toni Kroos has demanded a full apology from UEFA for the chaos that occurred outside the Stade de France ahead of the Champions League final.

European football's governing body has already expressed its apologies for what it has acknowledged as "frightening and distressing events" leading up to Real Madrid's game with Liverpool.

Madrid midfielder Kroos wants mistakes made in the hours leading up to the May 28 match in Paris to be recognised.

Kick-off was twice delayed due to what UEFA initially described as 'security reasons' outside the Stade de France due to crowd congestion.< /p>

Liverpool fans have complained about police brutality outside the stadium, with video footage showing tear gas being used on supporters, with Kroos saying his wife, Jessica, and their children were among those held at the entrance.

UEFA blamed ticketless fans trying to force entry and fans using fake tickets, but then announced an investigation to "establish a full picture and timeline of what happened during the day".

Kroos answered 90 questions for a special edition of a newspaper to raise funds for the Toni Kroos Foundation.

Among them, Jorg Jakob from Kicker asked Kroos: "Should UEFA apologize to the fans for what happened in the Paris final?"

Five-time Champions League winner Kroos said, as quoted by AS: "I don't know if the investigations have already been closed, but I think it's time for them to apologise.

"My wife spent two hours at the gates of the stadium with the children. Her feeling is that there was no aggression from the supporters of the two clubs.

"Plus: they were very considerate, as there were a lot of kids in the crowd.

“Shortly before entering the field, I received a message on my mobile which reassured me: everyone had entered the stadium without any problem. The question only deserves a yes."

Madrid then lifted the trophy by beating Liverpool 1-0 after the game started 36 minutes behind.

The independent review panel investigating the final chaos must publish its full findings by November 2022, UEFA said.
