A new adaptation of the classic novel 'Lady Chatterley's Lover' is coming to Netflix this winter, bringing the classic literary staple to life for a new audience. What you might not know, however, is just how controversial the book's story has been over the years. Today it's the basis of a sexy and buzzy Netflix movie, but it's also been a frequent member of banned book lists, been censored for decades, and even been the subject of several landmark cases regarding publishing, freedom of expression and obscenity. /p>

This is far from the only famous literary work to have been banned. As we have all seen, even (and especially) in recent years, book banning - the practice of suppressing books that are controversial, deal with difficult subjects or are simply too ahead of their time - is a practice too current. You're used to seeing classics like 'Lord of the Flies', 'The Catcher in the Rye' and 'To Kill a Mockingbird' on these lists, but there are plenty of other difficult books through the years - even until today — who found themselves targeted by book banners.
