Matt shows the door to VirtualBox and runs the Gnome Boxes...for the first time - best read while listening to AC/DC - Thunderstruck.

Every time in a blue moon, I "get a wild hair" and decide to try something new. Well, new to me is. And there is no doubt in my mind that Boxes is eligible. After all, I've been a VirtualBox user for years. Before that, limited use with VMWare.

What are boxes?

Aside from the fact that Gnome Boxes sounds like a "Smurfs cartoon spin-off", it sounds pretty interesting. Boxes uses QEMU, KVM and libvirt virtualization technologies. And together they form Voltron; er, I mean boxes.

At its core, the idea behind Boxes seems to be focused on providing its users with the ability to run virtual machines in a reliable and simple environment. In keeping with its basic Gnome user experience, the entire software layout is quite minimalistic.
