Senior Labor MPs have clashed over the party's controversial attack ad claiming Rishi Sunak does not believe in jailing child sex offenders in a fiery TV exchange.

Lisa Nandy had a heated confrontation with left-winger John McDonnell - who served with her in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet - over social media ads.

Ms McDonnell told Ms Nandy 'it's not you' during the line on ITV's Peston, arguing Labor was wrong to 'personalise' issues.< /p>

Ms Nandy replied that she 'will not take lessons from you on civility in politics' - citing anti-Semitism

Discussing the announcement - which claimed that Mr. Sunak doesn't think child abusers should go to jail - Mr. McDonnell said: "I know you Lisa, it's not you. It's not you."

L The ex-shadow chancellor added, "You're never going to look for the person in that individual way. You opt for the facts and you opt for the political issue."

Ms Nandy replied that "the facts are there", before Mr McDonnell said the announcement was "unacceptable", adding "Follow Michelle Obama's advice - when they go down...we go up high. We're better than them - you know that and you are too."

The Shadow Upgrade Secretary said, "Can I just tell you nicely, John, everything firstly, I do not accept that the Prime Minister of this country does not take responsibility."

"Secondly, can I just tell you that you were a senior member of the Labor Party when he been found to have breached the Equality Act by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and brought us to our lowest point in our 100 year history."
