Liverpool drop more points as Crystal Palace steps up pressure on Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool drew Crystal Palace as Jurgen Klopp's side produced an ominous response to Tuesday's horror display against Real Madrid. A lackluster Reds side barely tested Palace keeper Vicente Guaita apart from Mohamed Salah hitting the bar in the second half.

Here are five things Express Sport learned when Liverpool failed their first test after Klopp branded every remaining Premier League game a 'Champions League qualifier'.

Klopp analyzes Keita's tackle

Klopp ran straight to his iPad at the edge of the pitch to recheck a tackle from Naby Keita in the first half. Keita was already on a yellow when he conceded a dangerous free kick deep in his own half.

Referee Darren England opted not to send off the midfielder for his second breach of the law. Klopp rushed straight to his dugout to review footage of the incident, apparently to see if Keita had the chance to stay on the pitch.

It was clear the German was on board with that stance as he substituted Keita at half-time. Harvey Elliott has been signed in place of the 28-year-old, whose performance 'summed up' his career at Anfield, according to Jamie Redknapp.

Matip struggles

Joel Matip's display epitomized a nervousness that existed in Liverpool's back four. Even Virgil van Dijk's usual poise seems to have waned after Tuesday's beating by Madrid.

Matip was only a second-half substitute in that loss to the Spanish giants. But that doesn't mean the Cameroonian wouldn't have been affected as Liverpool's defense was torn piece by piece by a crawling Madrid.

Liverpool were lucky that Palace lacked conviction in the final third. Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew were guilty of wastage as the Eagles approached the Reds' penalty area.
