Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak have been branded awkward 'waxworks' amid a 'painful' debate over the prime minister candidates tonight.

In it, a fumbling Struss admitted she was "unprepared" while many called her deliverance "weird" and "awkward".

This follows a grim statement by Foreign Secretary Ms Truss in which she vowed she would send MORE migrants to Africa, under the Conservative government's controversial and widely ridiculed asylum scheme in Rwanda.

Former Chancellor Mr Sunak has also defended the policy - although the UK is set to lose millions of pounds if it doesn't go ahead - and stood up pledged to introduce a cap on the number of refugees if he became prime minister.

He was unable to give clear assurances that his plans were legal during a campaign visit today after the Truss team claimed his suggestion that asylum seekers could be hosted on cruise ships would be breaking the law.

Pressed to find out if it was legal, he said: "What we need to do is be very honest about the challenges that the ECHR, these European laws, have on our ability to deal with this issue. .

"I said no option should be ruled out. We have a new British Bill of Rights which is being tabled in parliament which I think will help solve the problems.

"And I've added other points in today's plan by explaining how we could do things differently from the European Convention to strengthen our ability to deport people who should not be here and to protect our borders.
