Liz Truss has sparked an angry reaction after claiming that the “woke culture” in public service is “straying into anti-Semitism”.
Representatives for Whitehall said the likely next prime minister's 'incendiary accusations' - for which she offered no evidence - showed a 'lack of leadership'.
They warned that it "goes further than the usual dog whistle policy" and that senior officials would find it "both insulting and obnoxious".
The claims were in a press release from her campaign, in which Ms Truss also praised "Jewish values" such as "starting your own business". Critics on Twitter suggested she resorted to "stereotyping".
A campaign source also came under fire for saying Labor was "a talking shop for anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism", under Jeremy Corbyn and Keir Starmer.
At a synagogue in Manchester today, Ms Truss said 'she will change the culture of the woke public service which is straying into anti-Semitism', according to her campaign.
