Liz Truss 'woefully unprepared' for winter power cuts after refusing to act over summer

Critics of the floundering PM have pointed out that while other countries have taken steps before winter to prepare for the coming crisis, Liz Truss has so far refused to do so

Britain faces power cuts after No10 failed to prepare for a winter crisis, experts warned last night.

Households can also be paid not to use appliances during peak hours to avoid 1970s-style blackouts.

Prime Minister Liz Truss has previously ruled out energy rationing, unlike some EU countries. Labor said the crisis was a "direct consequence" of Tory policies.

Truss was accused last night of being woefully ill-prepared for an impending energy crisis that could plunge Britain into winter darkness.

Households face power cuts of three hours a night, just like in the 1970s, due to a potential shortage of gas from abroad caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Families will also be offered cash to not run appliances when demand is highest to avoid a crisis.

Other countries like Germany have implemented emergency measures over the summer to limit energy consumption, but Ms Truss has ruled out rationing outright during her campaign to be prime minister.< /p>

The national grid yesterday raised the possibility of power cuts, most likely between 4 and 7 p.m., if there is not enough gas to run the country's power plants.
