Longtime Labor MP Nick Brown got the whip withdrawn after a complaint was made against him.

The MP for Newcastle-upon-Tyne East, who has represented the constituency since 1983 and has been Chief Whip under every leadership since Tony Blair, was also suspended from the game pending the outcome of an investigation into the claim.

According to reports, Brown, 72, said he was "fully cooperating" with the investigation but did not had not been informed of the complaint against him.

Labour adopted a new independent complaints process last year, set up after the party came under fire from the equality watchdog for its handling of allegations of anti-Semitism.

Brown told Le Garde un in a statement: "A complaint has been lodged against me with the Labor Party, which is under investigation.

"I am therefore under an administrative suspension from the Labor Party pending the conclusion of the investigation.

"I am not aware of the nature of the complaint . I am cooperating fully with the investigation."

Sources told the newspaper that Labor Chief Whip Alan Campbell had briefed the party's parliamentary committee, which represents MPs in their dealings with the management, of Brown's suspension.

According to party rules, if an MP is administratively suspended, the party whip is automatically removed.

The new process for dealing with Labour's complaints, which were approved by vote at the last party conference, cover all protected features...
