Three cards from the murder mystery game Cluedo have been found in Lord Lucan's abandoned car by police investigating the murder of his nanny, it has been claimed.< /p>

The Earl fled in 1974, after 29-year-old Sandra Rivett was found dead at his London home, after being bludgeoned with a lead pipe.

The Rivett's body was discovered in the basement kitchen of an Eton-educated aristocrat's home in Belgravia, where his estranged wife Veronica also accused him of brutally assaulting her in the same way. p>

The murder - and the fate of British counterpart named Richard John Bingham - has been a matter of mystery ever since, with supposed sightings of him reported across the world for decades.

While Lord Lucan was declared legally dead in 1999, his body was never found, and Scotland Yard reportedly released a cold case review su r the 2004 Rivett murder.

Now the Daily Mail reports that officers investigating the case have uncovered three Cluedo maps - depicting the character Colonel Mustard, a lead pipe gun, and the fictional location of the murder of "the room" - in the boot of the car abandoned by Lord Lucan in Newhaven, East Sussex.

Citing sources with knowledge of the Metropolitan Police examination in 2004, the newspaper claims all three cards were missing from a recovered Cluedo set at Lucan's home.

Blood splatters were reportedly found on the stairs near the hallway of the building, including on a door leading to the basement, where investigators found a piece of lead pipe heavily bloodstained wrapped in duct tape, according to a 2002 report given to Nanny Rivett's son, Neil Berriman, quoted by the Mail >.

The allegations will fuel speculation as to whether the cards were deliberately left as a boast, as clues for the police to follow, or whether they were planted there- low to try to trap him.
