MakerDAO co-founder Rune Christensen has submitted a proposal to build the decentralized finance project's next native chain from a fork of the Solana codebase, not the Ethereum virtual machine despite its longstanding ties to Ethereum.

The MakerDAO Native Chain, or what is currently called "NewChain", is part of the fifth and final phase of MakerDAO's "Endgame" upgrade announced in May.

The final phase is expected to last approximately three years and will see the complete reimplementation of the Maker protocol in a new standalone blockchain.
