Man City condemn 'despicable' racist abuse of Rico Lewis by Sevilla fans

Manchester City have condemned Sevilla fans' 'despicable' racist abuse of Rico Lewis in Wednesday's Champions League clash, saying "we will not tolerate any discrimination".

Lewis, 17,'s memorable Champions League debut at the Etihad Stadium was marred by racist abuse after City confirmed two arrests had been made amid an ongoing investigation by the club and the font.

"Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse Rico Lewis suffered from Sevilla fans during yesterday's match," a club statement read on Thursday.

"We understand that two arrests have been made and continue to work with Sevilla and GMP [Greater Manchester Police] to investigate this matter.

"We will not tolerate any form of discrimination in our stadium and will offer our full support to Rico following these despicable incidents."

Sevilla said disciplinary action would be taken if the two culprits were found guilty.

"Sevilla strongly condemns the behavior of two supporters in the outdoor section of the Manchester City stadium, who have been identified and charged with allegedly acting in a racist manner towards Manchester City player Rico Lewis," a statement read. of La Liga.

"Sevilla are awaiting official confirmation of these facts, of which they have been informed by Manchester City, and if these are confirmed, the two supporters will be removed from the list of members.

"Sevilla would like to point out that there have never been racist or xenophobic episodes at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium and that its supporters have always been committed to the fight against racism."

Lewis equalized in the 3-1 win over Sevilla and became the youngest player in history to score on his Champions League debut.
