Man Utd fans heard chanting homophobic chants against Everton boss Frank Lampard

A group of Manchester United supporters could be heard singing a homophobic chant towards Frank Lampard during the second half of the FA Cup third round clash with Everton at Old Trafford. As the Red Devils led the Toffees 2-1, home fans began to take aim at Lampard's uncertain future at Goodison Park chanting 'you're getting kicked out tomorrow morning'.

But due to Lampard's previous dealings at Stamford Bridge, the taunts unfortunately didn't stop there, as United fans sang the infamous "rent boy" chant - usually aimed at Chelsea or former United players. Chelsea.

Last January, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that it now considers singing a hate crime, as opposed to a "harmless joke", as some fans have previously claimed.

LGBT+ supporter groups have tried to put an end to this chanting – which they have always considered homophobia – by working closely with the Football Association to find a solution.

In early 2022, the CPS finally confirmed that the term "rent boy" would now be considered a homophobic slur.

Speaking to , Max Hill QC, Director of Public Prosecutions for England and Wales, confirmed the change of stance and called the chanting "despicable and disgusting".

"Hate crimes have no place in society, let alone in sport," he said a year ago. "Recently we have seen an increase in reports of racist and homophobic abuse at football matches and it is a disease that we are determined to play our part in eliminating."

He later added: "This weekend's FA Cup third round was also marred by reports of racist or homophobic abuse by so-called fans at three matches.

"This is despicable and disgusting behavior and the CPS stands with the majority of the public who want this eradicated."

The chant marks an otherwise positive night for United, who edged past their Premier League opponents in an entertaining draw.

Antony put United ahead minutes into the game before Conor Coady leveled things for the visitors.

Unfortunately for the England international, he would then turn the ball into his own net in the second half in what would prove to be the winner for United as Everton's problems continued to escalate.

The incident also comes just days after Nottingham Forest confirmed they would be investigating the same chant at the City Ground during the 1-1 draw with Chelsea last weekend.

Last season's Championship play-off winners tweeted: "The Club is aware of the reports of chants directed at Chelsea supporters by a minority of supporters tonight and do not tolerate any type of discriminatory or offensive behaviour. The matter will be fully investigated. ."

The official Chelsea LGBT supporters group 'Chelsea Pride' strongly condemned the chant, tweeting: "We totally condemn the Chelsea Rent Boy chant which can be heard at the City Ground.

“Time to bring it up with the game live on @SkySportsPL. This is now classified as a hate crime.”

Nottingham Forest's own LGBT group, 'LGBT Trickies', took the opportunity to apologize on behalf of the club's disgraced supporters.

A post on Twitter read: "From all true #NFFC fans, please accept our apologies, not only do we hope @NottPolFootball does their best to take action, we hope @NFFC releases a tolerant statement. (sic) this and take the necessary measures."
