Man Utd star 'frustrates' team-mate and Ten Hag after 'ignoring orders' against Man City

Man Utd winger Antony ignored Erik ten Hag's defensive instructions against Man City in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

The Red Devils were torn apart in the first half by the Citizens, with Ten Hag's side trailing 4-0 at half-time.

Phil Foden and Erling Haaland each scored a hat-trick as the game ended 6-3 with a wonderful strike from Antony and a brace from Anthony Martial making the score slightly better.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has slammed Antony and Jadon Sancho for their lack of defensive contributions throughout the game with Man Utd full-backs completely exposed.

"What's amazing to me in the first half is that Man United defended so badly on the flanks," Wenger told beIN Sports.

"From the first minute, Diogo Dalot received a yellow card and Sancho and Antony did not contribute defensively.

"They were, throughout the half, flooded on the flanks and they were still struggling.

"After that, when they got the ball, I felt they were obsessed with sticking to the game plan too much.

"They always wanted to go too fast forward and lost so many balls and didn't have enough possession.

"They didn't play for possession, they just wanted to counterattack."

And The Sun claims Antony 'ignored defensive orders' from Ten Hag during the Manchester derby, with the Dutchman telling the winger to 'go back' before the game.

Since Antony swapped Ajax for Old Trafford in the summer transfer window for £85.5million, "Ten Hag has reminded Antony of his defensive responsibilities during all of United's training sessions in Carrington".

Although the message was 'reinforced' ahead of the huge loss to City, Antony 'apparently forgot these instructions much to the frustration of his manager and right-back Diogo Dalot, who had no protection'.

Antony was far from alone in having a bad game against City, with former Arsenal defender William Gallas calling United's performance "terrible".

"[United were] terrible," Gallas told Genting Casino. "You know when you play a big derby the first minute is very important. When you play away you have to be ready to play because you know the opponent will attack you immediately.

"You have to be ready to give 100%. When I watched the game, the Manchester United players weren't strong enough.

"They couldn't keep the ball. They couldn't make four passes. If you want to get anything out of a game like this, you have to be better with the ball."
