Man Utd said 'it's impossible' to sign to 'play like glory years' but 'he will adapt'

Man Utd have been told by a Spanish football pundit that 'it is impossible' for Casemiro to play for them as he did for Real Madrid.

The midfielder was one of United's star signings during the summer transfer window.

His arrival came out of nowhere as Man Utd previously focused their time on persuading Frenkie de Jong to join them from Real Madrid.

One per club: Premier League's best youngsters sent out on loan during summer window

It ultimately didn't help, so they targeted Casemiro as a cheaper alternative.

The total fee for De Jong would have been around £74m, while Casemiro could cost United up to £60m.

The 30-year-old is a great signing on paper as he is recognized as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

He also won the Champions League five times. He is now trying to add the Europa League to his trophy cabinet with Man Utd.

Spanish football expert Graham Hunter is 'very hopeful' that Casemiro can 'adapt to what's around him' at United:

"Unique is a big word, but Real Madrid's style is so unique that it's impossible for Casemiro to play the same way he did in his glory years with them," said Hunter .

"I don't think that's the way he's going to be asked to play at United, though.

"I'm hopeful he'll adapt to his surroundings. He's proven to be a real winner.

"He played a central role in a Real Madrid team that has been there or thereabouts in La Liga and the Champions League for a long time."

So far, Casemiro has made three substitute appearances for Man Utd in the Premier League.

Earlier this week he made his debut for the Red Devils, who were beaten 1-0 by Real Sociedad in their first Europa League group game.

Hunter then suggested that Casemiro is "not a dirty player" but "brings smarts to the street and cojones to midfield":

"He's a player who will undoubtedly balance committing a foul and the higher cost, but it's absolutely wrong to call him a dirty player," Hunter later said in his interview with the Man Utd official. website.

"He's been sent off twice - and once for refusing to back down from a free kick, so he's not a bad player.

"He brings street smarts and cojones to midfield, he's got a good physique, he's damn good in the air on both sides, so he's extremely well equipped.

"The Premier League can be relentless, so it takes time for any player to adapt whether they're magic like Casemiro or not; but for aggression, mentality and character, so United have definitely found the right guy."
