Manchester court sentences 39 violent anti-Glazer protesters

November 28 - A total of 39 football fans have been convicted of disturbances following the protest against the Glazer family at Old Trafford which saw fans breaking into the stadium.

The protest led to the postponement of the game against Liverpool in May last year.

Offences included assault, criminal damage and burglary. The defendants, aged 15 to 52, were banned from attending the matches but none were imprisoned.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said 36 officers were assaulted, with one sustaining a serious facial injury requiring medical attention, along with stewards and security personnel.

Damage to the inside of the stadium exceeded £70,000 and included £60,000 of damage to TV cameras.

Deputy Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry said: 'GMP's Major Investigation Team has launched a thorough investigation to ensure these individuals have been located and must face the consequences of their actions. terrible that day.

“Our officers put their lives at risk every day and it is absolutely shameful that someone willfully assaults a rescuer.

"We simply won't allow that to happen."

The incident occurred in the midst of the pandemic when emergency responders were "already called upon".

"I hope these people are ashamed of their actions and have some remorse," Chaudry said.
