Manchester Police investigate Angela Rayner's claims over council house

Police are investigating allegations that Angela Rayner broke electoral law in the early 2010s while living between two council houses in Stockport.

< p>On Monday, police confirmed a detective chief inspector had been assigned to re-examine the case, just days after Ms Rayner accused the Conservative Party of trying to "defame" her and insisted controversy over her tax affairs was 'fabricated'.

Police initially said Ms would not be investigated following allegations she gave false information about her whereabouts of residence for the electoral rolls, but has now confirmed in a letter to Conservative Party deputy chairman James Daly that it will "review the circumstances". according to the Times.

Mr. Daly, MP for Bury North, said Greater Manchester Police had failed to properly investigate allegations that the Labor deputy leader had broken the law.

The initial investigation was sparked by former Lord Ashcroft, vice-president of the Conservative Party, who suggested she had not correctly declared her main residence in his bookRed Queen? Angela Rayner's unauthorized biography,leading some to suggest that Ms. Rayner may have to pay capital gains tax on the sale of her property.
