Manchester United kicked as Romano confirms main target will join Leipzig

Manchester United target Benjamin Sesko will join RB Leipzig in 2023 with a deal expected to be completed 'this week', according to Fabrizio Romano.

Red Bull Salzburg striker Sesko has been linked with the Red Devils in recent weeks, with Real Madrid, Newcastle United, Liverpool and Chelsea also interested.

The cancellation of Coventry City was an avoidable embarrassment for almost everyone involved

The 19-year-old joined Salzburg from Slovenian side NK Domzale in 2019 and has scored 12 goals in 39 appearances for the Austrian champions.

He is in high demand and Erik ten Hag is believed to be prioritizing signing with Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford up in the air.

Manchester United director of football John Murtough met with Sesko's agent last week and has planned further talks.

However, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that there will be no need for further talks as the youngster has agreed to join Salzburg's sister club Leipzig.

The Bundesliga side were hoping to sign Sesko this summer but he won't join his new teammates until 2023.

The player is 'happy' to stay in Austria for another year and the two clubs are expected to confirm the deal this week.

His contract at Leipzig runs until 2028.

Sesko won't be Leipzig's only signing this week with Chelsea striker Timo Werner set to join the club.

Romano has revealed that the German team will pay 20 million euros plus supplements for their former player.

Chelsea paid around £47million to sign Werner, but he struggled in front of goal during his time in west London.

The 26-year-old scored 23 times in 89 appearances and helped the Blues win the Champions League in 2020/21.

Another player who could leave Chelsea is 21-year-old winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Sky Sports correspondent Dharmesh Sheth reported that "up to 20 clubs" are interested in signing the youngster, with Borussia Dortmund being one of the teams in contention.
