Margot Robbie's latest film bombed at the box office, marking the second such flop she's been in this year...both of which were huge ensemble numbers with top talent.

Of course, we're talking about "Babylon" - which hit theaters this holiday weekend...and only grossed a measly $3.5 million domestically through Sunday, with approximately $5.3 million which is expected to arrive through Monday. Either way...it's not a good turnout.

The film - which is about old Hollywood and the rise of "talkies" - had enormous star power attached to the credits... in addition to Margot in the lead, it also starred Brad Pitt, Tobey Maguire , Olivia Wilde, Chloe Fineman, Eric Roberts, Flea, Max Minghella, etc.

Plus, there's the director -- Damien Chazelle -- who won an Oscar...and with a pretty hefty $80 million budget (and lots of marketing), we don't know why this one- ci didn't do well with moviegoers this holiday season. The mixed reviews probably didn't help.

Interestingly, there's another movie Margot was in earlier this fall that had very similar vibes: Another Star Lineup (Christian Bale, Robert De Niro, Rami Malek, Taylor Swift , etc.) who reunited for 'Amsterdam' ... which also died out in theaters.

It only grossed around $6.4 million in its opening weekend in October and only raised around $16 million domestically, after an additional $80 million. millions of dollars spent to achieve it.

A bit of a rough year for Margot on the movie front - not only were things bad at the box office... but she also said the 'Pirates' movie she was attached to was killed off
