Marrisa Wilson's "Rhythmic" Fall Collection

Title "Rhythmic", Marrisa Wilson's fall collection was inspired by the experience of the founder and creative director as a competitive dancer growing up.

"I've done tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, contemporary - everything that. I really love the music connection and I was doing a deep dive into understanding my own process. There's always a musical element in every one of my collections; when I start designing, I start with a list of reading to set the mood – almost like I was choreographing in my head," Wilson told WWD on a date. "I was listening to a lot of jazz music to begin with, while researching Katherine Dunham, who is considered the matriarch of modern black dance. Pat Cleveland closed our show and she actually studied with Dunham when she was five years old. It created a genuine and complete connection. »

Wilson's inspiration paved the way for fall hand-painted prints like abstract circular patterns inspired by Le Rond de ballet's ballet leg movement, or an evolution of its contemporary sporty silhouettes, such as a lime-colored polo dress or a tailored utility ensemble. The biggest news, and the highlight of the collection, came from new novelty knits and bright, faded denim – both of which supported Wilson's optimistic momentum, which its customers crave. In addition to opening up to the broader wholesale market (it primarily sells direct-to-consumer) for the fall, Wilson was named an FGI Rising Star finalist for ready-to-wear in February.
