Mason Mount wants Liverpool move for respect denied by Chelsea 'plastics', not money

Liverpool cannot pay Mason Mount more than Chelsea. It's about respect, or disrespect, from a section of fans screaming the loudest and most often.

Two years ago, almost to the day, Mount cut from the right of Liverpool's penalty area, curled a shot into the far corner and secured a 1-0 victory for Chelsea. To suggest then that he would trade the blue of his boyhood club for the red of his rivals would have been madness.

A month later he scored a stunning goal against Porto and a month later another in a man of the match display to beat Real Madrid and secure passage to the Champions League final, where he helped the winner of Kai Havertz. As the banner unveiled two weeks ago at Stamford Bridge said, he was "the boy who had a dream" and was living it.

It should be heartbreaking to Chelsea fans that Mount is even considering leaving the club, yet a significant number - let's call them 'plastics' for lack of a better nickname - would actually prefer to see him from behind.< /p>

In the spirit of those plastics, Mount is a manager's darling, promoted above his job, unworthy of a place in world football's most expensively built team. It's a badass, with little end product, for which passion belies its quality. This is fucking nonsense.

The common argument in defense of Mount is that every manager covets his abilities. Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate all wanted him in their squads, and although Graham Potter took him out of the firing line more recently, Mount has started 15 of his 18 Premier League games in charge.

But the stats also show that Mount has been comfortably the best and most consistent of Chelsea's forwards. No Chelsea player has created more chances per 90 minutes than Mount in 2020-21 (2.7) and 2021-22 (2.2), with only Bruno Fernandes (95) creating more chances overall than Mount (87) in 2020-21. According to Whoscored ratings, Mount was Chelsea's best player in 2020-21 and easily their best striker last season.

Even this season, in which his form has undeniably dropped significantly, only Havertz among Chelsea forwards has a higher rating.

The very fact that Jurgen Klopp wants him at Liverpool should be proof enough of Mount's excellence. The German is rarely wrong in transfers, let alone in forward positions.

So why is it then, given that almost every player at Chelsea has been rotten this season, that it's Mount - who has more credit in the bank than almost anyone else - these plastics have such a problem with?

Mount Chelsea

For fellow Chelsea fans - let's call them 'real' - the fact that Mount has been at the club since he was six years old is a huge positive. Like all true football supporters, they will give players like this extra leeway and support as they have the same love for the club as they do. Maybe those freedoms are the problem for pla...
