Matt Smith questioned the number of sex scenes in 'House of the Dragon': 'A bit too many, if you ask me'

It's hard to imagine a more anticipated show than HBO's upcoming "Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon." Fans and skeptics alike wonder if he can maintain the signature blend of Shakespearian drama, brutal violence and, of course, no-holds-barred sex scenes that made "Game of Thrones" such a hit. The jury has yet to determine the first two aspects, but so far it seems that the last category could very well exceed expectations.

As the cast and crew make the rounds to promote the upcoming spin-off, there's been a lot of talk about the multitude of nude and sex scenes in Season 1. The creators are adamant about the fact that they are needed in the sequel- up to the story told now. But not everyone is sold on the idea: including some actors.

In a new interview with , Matt Smith, who plays Daemon Prince Targaryen in 'House of the Dragon', says he wondered if the many sex scenes he filmed were necessary.< /p> Related Related

"You wonder, 'Do we need another sex scene?' '" Smith said. "And they say, 'Yeah, we do'. I guess you have to be thinking, 'What are you doing? Are you representing the books or are you watering down the books to represent the times [we live in]?"

When asked if her character had too sex scenes, the former 'Doctor Who' star didn't mince words.

"Yeah - a little too much, if you ask me," he said.

Smith isn't the first member of the House of the Dragon team to weigh in on the sex scene debate, albeit on the other side. Following the brutal sexual violence of 'Game of Thrones', 'House of the Dragon' co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik says the spinoff has no intention of forgoing depictions of sexual violence.

"[We] don't hesitate," Sapochnik said. "If anything, we're going to shine a light on that aspect. You cannot ignore the violence that was perpetrated on women by men during this time. It should not be minimized and it should not be glorified. »

"House of the Dragon" premieres on HBO on Sunday, August 21.
