Mel C reveals she was sexually assaulted before the first Spice Girls concert

Speaking on novelist Elizabeth Day's podcast, the star said the assault took place during a hotel massage in Turkey.

"I felt violated. I felt very vulnerable. I felt awkward," she said.

"And then I felt uncertain - did I get it right? I was in an environment where you get naked with this professional person."

The singer, whose full name is Melanie Chisholm, said she had the incident "immediately " because she had to focus on the first concert of the Spice Girls.

"I didn't want to make a fuss but I didn't want to have either time to deal with it."

She added that the fact not dealing with the assault at the time had allowed him to be "buried for years and years and years".

This n t was when she started writing her memoir, Who I Am, that the memories started to resurface.

"It came to me in a dream, where I am somehow woke up and it was in my head. And I was like, 'Oh, my God, I didn't even think about having that in the book.'

"So, of course, I had to think, 'Well, do I want to reveal this?' And I just thought, actually, I think it's really important for me to say it, and finally deal with it and deal with it."
