The high-end enterprise VR headset from Meta, formerly Project Cambria, will debut on October 25 as the Meta Quest Pro for $1,500.

Technical specs make it one of the most powerful VR devices to date, considering the price that's well below the Magic Leap 2 augmented reality headset that debuted for business at $3,300 $. I got to try the device out in the field at Meta HQ and it's pretty nifty on a lot of fronts.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has bet his company on reaching the metaverse first, has targeted Meta Quest Pro at enterprise users, who don't mind paying higher prices for devices capable of delivering higher productivity to business employees. But game aficionados can also buy it.

"It's an important moment," Zuckerberg said. "What if you could collaborate with colleagues as if you were at work?"

The wireless headset is for workers who need to collaborate more productively or create in a feature-rich device that pushes virtual reality forward. It features high-resolution sensors for a colorful camera experience (mixed reality), crisp LCD displays for crisp visuals that make it easier to read text in VR, an entirely new and sleeker design, and a eye tracking and natural facial expressions so your avatar can mimic you more naturally in virtual reality.

The idea is to let you do work you can't do on a laptop or phone, Zuckerberg said. It's made for working in the metaverse, he says.

Thanks to natural facial movement capture, you can now experience spontaneous moments while collaborating with others in virtual reality. When you smile, other people in VR with the same headset will see your avatar smiling. This allows for richer, deeper and more meaningful experiences, Rao said. You can watch a movie with a loved one and make eye contact or nod your head. You can express yourself with non-verbal cues when interacting with someone wearing Quest Pro.
