Mexico and Haiti line up for an unmissable duel

July 7 - After a rest day in the Concacaf W Championship, the second round of group matches begins tonight in Group A with Mexico taking on Haiti in a game to win for both countries.

Mexico are still squandering missed chances in their 1-0 loss to Jamaica and if they are to have any chance of automatically qualifying for the 2023 World Cup, they need a big win against Haiti, but he will still have to come away with something from their last match with the American world champions.

Mexico have improved dramatically under head coach Monica Vergara, but they have yet to perform in a very competitive group after missing out on the World Cup in 2019.

To do this, they will need to translate their passing game into a goal game. Chivas' strike partnership of Dana Ordonez and Alicia Cervantes should lead the line, but Vergara has plenty of other options off the bench.

Haiti will be another physical challenge and although beaten 3-0 by the United States, has proven to be a stubborn opponent. They know that a victory against Mexico will probably be decisive for the semi-finals and the qualification of 2023 with Jamaica in the last round of group matches.

The France-based pair of Melchie Dumornay (Stade de Reims) and Nerilia Mondesir (Montpellier) were the team's engine room against the United States, and Roselord Borgella (also based in France with Issy les Moulineux) they have one of the top scorers in qualifying. Only one of them has to start shooting to make the evening uncomfortable for Mexico.

The United States seeks to secure a place in 2023

The United States entered this tournament with hopes of winning qualification for the 2023 World Cup, the championship title and Olympic qualification.

Their debut against Haiti was winning if not dazzling. A victory over Jamaica's Reggae Girlz will pretty much achieve the first goal of 2023 qualification.

Alex Morgan lived up to his stardom with the first two goals for the United States and they expect her to be on the scoresheet again although Jamaican keeper Rebecca Spencer was exceptional against Mexico and will also look to spoil the American parade.

In captain Khadija Shaw, Jamaica have their own striker capable of transforming games with her goals.

The United States have won the two previous meetings between these countries at the CWC, including a 6-0 semi-final in 2018 in which Morgan scored a brace and Megan Rapinoe also scored.
