Mindy Kaling Says She Doesn't Have 'Experience' Enough To Do A Show Like 'Euphoria'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - AUGUST 11: Co-creator, writer and executive producer Mindy Kaling arrives at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix

Mindy Kaling, co-creator of teen drama “Never Have I Ever,” said she could never do a series like “Euphoria.”

"I love 'Euphoria' and I think [creator] Sam [Levinson] is like a genius," she said in an Aug. 12 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "I think he has a lot to say about things like sex and drug use and addiction and those are incredibly interesting, but we don't have a ton of experience in that," said- she said of herself and co-creator Lang Fisher. "I watch this show on the edge of my seat, vicariously, but I feel like nerd lust for guys is more what we feel comfortable writing about, which is why we we do. We write about the goons, the idiots and the people who are underestimated."

Fisher agreed, adding, "Mindy and I aren't cool enough to write 'Euphoria.' We operate pretty succinctly and safely in the TV-14 space, and we weren't like "Euphoria" teenagers either. Mindy and I were nice, jerks, and maybe each had like half a boyfriend."

The third season of "Never Have I Ever" premiered on August 12. It features Reese Witherspoon's son, Deacon Phillippe, as new antagonist character Parker in his acting debut. It also focuses on the central character Devi's (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) relationships with Paxton and Ben. (Kaling also clarified whether she's Team Paxton or Team Ben.) Meanwhile, Anirudh Pisharody also made his debut this season as attractive newcomer Nirdesh.
