Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Brings Back Ethan Hunt's Oldest Opponent and He Reigns

In "Mission Impossible", we meet Kittridge for the first time at the end of the first act. The operation that Ethan's team was working on has gone up in smoke, he is the only survivor and he has an appointment with Kittridge at the Akvarium restaurant in Prague to debrief him. The problem is, Kittridge is now convinced that Ethan is a traitor because he survived the job which was, in effect, a staged mole hunt.

Director Brian De Palma's Hitchcock fetish appears time and time again in his films; the restaurant scene is where it rears its head the most in "Mission: Impossible," with the tension slowly building as Ethan realizes he's been framed as a mole. Once Ethan gets the cues, De Palma changes the framing from standard round-trip medium close-ups to low Dutch angles. These angles make Kittridge's smirks downright menacing.
