Moon Pod: the next generation chair

Originally funded on Kickstarter, the Moon Pod is a unique, long, amorphous bean bag that has taken the internet by storm. With a futuristic design and gravity-free beads, it's only logical that this next-generation chair caught the attention of many.

John Fiorentino, the creator of the Moon Pod, is also responsible for many relaxation products. Many of them have become household names around the world.

The unique dual-membrane design lives up to claims of "stress relief" and "anti-anxiety effects" for its users. Moon Pod products are filled with custom-made, high-density beads that mimic the weightless feeling of flotation therapy, giving users the feeling of floating. This is where the next-generation chair gets its "zero gravity" effects, allowing customers to reap its anti-stress benefits.

The Moon Pod is easily adjustable, depending on whether you want to sit, relax or lie down. You also have the option of adding extras including a footrest, pillow and arm/backrest to further support you. These will be discussed later in the review.

Moon Pod Overview

When the Moon Pod and its accessories arrive, they come in large cardboard boxes. The company does not recommend using a sharp object to open the boxes as this may damage the products. The only assembly required is for customers to place the Moon Pod in a cover, like putting a pillow in a pillowcase. These cases are also available in many colors. Weighing just 12 pounds and taking up 4 feet of space, the Moon Pod itself is larger than the average beanbag. So once it's in its cover, you're ready to relax.

Does it really look like a Zero Gravity chair? In fact, yes!

I have to say I was shocked that this met its advertising request. Other chairs claiming weightlessness make sense to me because they're not on the ground. Still, as a beanbag, I thought it was a bold choice for an ad unless it could be pulled back. But the Moon Pod succeeds! It allows the user to fully relax as it adapts to their body, fully supporting their weight. I almost feel like it's pressing my body upwards because of the support, which pleasantly surprised me! This ottoman lives up to its claim to feel like you're floating.

When I sit for long periods of time, I am much more relaxed than on classic chairs or beanbags. The support is greatly appreciated, and most of the time I never want to leave. In normal chairs I adjust a little due to old injuries or pain, but found myself adjusting less. Also, when using my laptop to work from home from the Moon Pod, I find I'm much more supported than in a regular kitchen chair or couch.

If there was one slight downside to the Moon Pod, it would be that it's hard to get out of it without a helping hand due to its proximity to the ground. If not, it helps to have something stable nearby to help you out.

In the end, I should have known. The company also advertises the Moon Pod as “the future of relaxation,” as if “Apple” or “Elon Musk” designed this ottoman. For a chair, he's looking to make big waves. He is ready to walk and talk. It's so comfortable that I sometimes have trouble staying awake! It's the perfect next-gen chair for napping, lounging, working from home, watching TV, and more.

What sets the Moon Pod apart?

Honestly, when I first saw it, it looked like a regular beanbag. "What's so special?" was my first thought. But then I sat down and adjusted. Unlike a regular beanbag, the Moon Pod adapts perfectly to my shape and position thanks to its high-density beads that hug my body.

When I sit in a normal beanbag, I usually expect to slowly fade into oblivion as the cheap polystyrene (EPS) filling gives in to my weight. The difference with the Moon Pod is that it completely absorbs the shock of my weight and adjusts accordingly, creating the perfect level of comfort and balance for my body.

MoonPod Accessories

When you purchase your Moon Pod, you have the option of including different accessories to enhance your experience. These include a 4d Moon Pod pillow, a moon lift and a crescent. The pillow is the one you can use for sleeping, supporting or relaxing. The Lunar Lift is similar to a footrest that you can use as additional support for your feet and lower body in general. Or, you can also use it as a makeshift seat if needed. E...
