More than 4,000 convicted child sex offenders have escaped jail and been 'free to roam the streets' under the Tories since 2010, damning research has found.

About 2,000 adults convicted of sexual assault or sexual activity against children under 16 have been released with community sentences, while more than 2,400 have received conditional sentences.< /p>

That means 346 child sex offenders avoid jail every year – nearly one a day – according to the Labor study.

Suspended and community sentences, which include cleaning graffiti or picking up litter, are supposed to be given to offenders for the most minor offences.

Shadow Justice Secretary Steve Reed said, "These numbers will horrify communities across the country.

"Victims are terrified and constantly looking over their shoulders. This is the reality in Conservative Britain.

"The Tories have left dangerous pedophiles free to roam the streets. Parents will be mad with worry that the Tories are so soft on this horrendous crime.

"Rishi Sunak needs to be clear about why the Conservatives are on the side of the criminals, not the law-abiding majority.

“Labour is the party of law and order, and we will implement tougher penalties for dangerous criminals. We have made it our central mission to make Britain's streets safe. »

This comes as the party announces plans to introduce specialized rape courts to tackle violence against women and girls, as rape cases dropped have more than doubled since 2015.

Some 41.6% of rape victims are now giving up pursuing their case, up from 19.7% in 2015, according to a new Labor analysis revealed last night.

Meanwhile, only 1.6% of reported rapists were charged last year.

The alarming figures are coming...
