Most Americans say life is starting to return to pre-Covid normal, poll finds
Most Americans say their lives are approaching at least pre-pandemic normality, according to a recent study.
While 12 % of adults think their life is the same as before the pandemic, 54% think their life is somewhat the same, according to the poll released Tuesday by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the SCAN Foundation.< /p>< p class="css-at9mc1 evys1bk0">A smaller proportion, 34%, think their life is not the same.
The survey was carried out in mid-May, when, like today, hospitalizations increased nationwide.
According to the survey, a slim majority of 51% of Americans think getting the Covid-19 vaccine is essential for them, while 39% think almost everyone needs to get the shot before things go back to the way they were.
Fifty percent of Americans believe that the availability of effective treatments for Covid-19 is essential to participating in public life.
Only 22% believe wearing a mask in indoor public places is essential to return to pre-pandemic life, while 20% believe regular testing is essential.
L The study also found that black and Hispanic adults were more likely than white adults to value indoor masking and regular testing.
While 78 % of black respondents said most people wearing face masks in indoor public places would bring life back to normal, 62% of Hispanics and 44% of white respondents agreed.
When asked if most people should be reg ully tested, 71% of blacks said yes, compared to 58% of Hispanics and 42% of whites.
In the survey, 87% of respondents said that they would socialize with friends and family; 79% planned to go to a bar or restaurant, visit older relatives, travel and attend religious services in person; 65% said they were willing to exercise in a gym or studio; and 50% would use public transport.
The survey included 1,001 adult respondents who were interviewed online or by phone in English between May 12 and May 16 May.
