Most people oppose Liz Truss being allowed to hand out 'reward for failure' peerages to mark the end of her disastrous tenure as prime minister, according to a new poll.

Outgoing Prime Ministers are allowed to include friends and cronies in the House of Lords in their resignation honors lists.

Only 7% of voters think Ms Truss, who has been in office for just 49 days, should be allowed to list, according to a poll by Opinion for the Electoral Reform Society (ERS).

Those tipped to be on Ms Truss' list include Brexit campaigner Matthew Elliott, Tory donor Jon Moynihan and longtime aide Ruth Porter, who currently works as a lobbyist.

And it is claimed that Mark Littlewood, the head of the Institute of Economic Affairs who backed large swathes of Ms Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng's disastrous mini-budget, will also be named Lord.

Ms. Truss' and Mr. Johnson's awards are both expected to be officially released within weeks.
