Mother Denim launches capsule collection with David Bowie and his Ziggy Stardust era in mind

It's been over 50 years since British singer/songwriter David Bowie introduced his over-the- top, Ziggy Stardust's flamboyant alter ego to the world in an album released during the glam rock era.

Bowie died seven years ago, but Ziggy lives on in a capsule collection created by Mother , the Los Angeles denim and ready-to-wear brand founded in 2010 by Lela Becker and Tim Kaeding.

Mother is known for her playful, nonconformist spirit. He is also known for his tight-fitting jeans with soft fabrics which were endorsed six years ago by Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, when she was dating Prince Harry and wore a pair of Mother jeans to the Invictus Games in Toronto. .

But the brand does more than just denim. He's also known for his capsule collections, and this year, for Tuesday's capsule launch, Mother pays homage to Bowie's otherworldly character Ziggy Stardust with reinterpreted '70s styles.

"Mother is rooted in the experiences of growing up in the 70s, and we have long been inspired by Bowie's ever-changing personalities. The opportunity to design with Ziggy Stardust-era imagery and iconography felt like a looping moment," Kaeding said in an email. "The legacy de Bowie spans generations, and the world as we know it today wouldn't be as colorful or unique without his contributions. He was the ultimate rebel, and our collection draws on his and his mother's maverick spirit."

The Mother team designed the eight-piece capsule collection using the Bowie archives. “We approached the collaboration the same way we approach our mainline, leveraging a sense of whimsy while using interesting design techniques,” Kaeding explained.

The Bowie x Mother collection, priced between $28 and $475, is made in Los Angeles, USA. except for the cardigan and the socks. It includes '70s-inspired flared jeans, a cardigan using Bowie's signature red and blue palette, concert tees, a Let's Dance sweatshirt and socks.
