A mother and her seven-year-old daughter were found beheaded in their home in a murder that shocked their community.

Edineuza Carvalho Rodrigues, 24, and Lívia Thauane were found at their home in Brazil after reporting security concerns.

Neighbors called the police after noticing 'strange movements' at the property in Casa Nova, Bhaia three days before Christmas.

The main suspect in the horrific attack is said to be Edinueza's ex-partner, who is Lívia's father, reports

Edineueza reportedly broke up with him about 12 months ago, but they reportedly have been in touch from time to time.

Brazilian police have not released any information on potential motives at this time.

The city, home to around 75,000 people, was shocked by the brutal murder.

Brazil ranks in the top 20 most dangerous countries for murder, with a homicide rate of 28 homicides per 100,000 people.

A Brazilian mother and her partner were sentenced to 129 years in prison in 2021 for killing and beheading her 11-year-old son outside Brasilia.

The woman allegedly grilled her son's body after the murder.

After the sentencing, the boy's father, Maycon Douglas Lima de Castro, told local media, "It's still too little, but at least they'll never leave prison again."
