A young mother has died after sneaking to the top of a waterfall closed to the public to take a selfie.

26-year-old Amanda Franco dos Santos, mother of a five-year-old child, died tragically after diving from the top of the Corupa waterfalls road, located in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, and having been swept downstream.< /p>

The route - which consists of 14 waterfalls - is said to be one of the last remaining areas of Atlantic Forest in Brazil.

Although the place was closed to visitors on Sunday, October 30, Franco dos Santos, from the Brazilian city of Mafra, still went to visit the beauty area.

The trio weren't willing to give up a photoshoot for their Instagram, so they decided to use an alternate route to reach the area.

A search for the 26-year-old's body was launched along the route of the waterfall (

Shortly afterwards, however, the two friends called the police to report that Franco dos Santos had disappeared around 4:50 p.m.

Crews from the local volunteer fire department immediately rushed to the scene after the call.

They then searched the entire route of the waterfall.

However, they failed to find Franco dos Santos during the first day of the search.

Unfortunately, the body of Franco dos Santos was only found after crossing several waterfalls.
